Somehow I never got around to putting a new art box together for M last week. I had hopes that he would make more valentines, but I guess he only had one week’s worth of valentines in him. :)
He asked for stencils and paint and did, oh, maybe a hundred paintings just like these:
He has this super-ability to fixate on one thing and do it over and over and over again. And then… again, one more time. I’m not sure if this is normal; it may just be he’s picked up a bit of his mom’s craziness. ;)
I cured him of his stenciling spree by buying him another paint-with-water book. He did it, the entire book, that afternoon. 
So, we didn’t have the artsy-est week ever, but he really did enjoy himself and I enjoyed the fact that an 89 cent book gave me a half hour of quiet.

I think he's just mastering one skill before moving onto another! Totally normal, for a perfectionist!
ReplyDeleteMine can happily do the same thing over and over and over for a very long time too. I think it's part of this age, and how they learn skills.

ReplyDeleteWe used a lot of stencils this week too. Johnsie loves them. I have never used a paint with water book with him yet. I honestly forgot about them. I will have to look for some.

Your Tot School post was full of fantastic ideas. The bands over the jar sounds like such a great activity, something I am looking forward to trying with Savvy. I saw a few button snakes in the blogosphere and think that this is another idea we would enjoy doing.
I like the combination of glitter and cinnamon in your play doh - sounds wonderful. The play doh Valentine's M made are so very sweet.
A tissue paper sensory tub sounds like so much fun. This would be something that both Sav and Blakie would love. The simple pleasures are always the best. I can imagine you and M having a blast blowing pices of tissue paper around the room.
It was fantastic to hear M singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and to hear you too. He is such a cutie.

M's stencils are very cute. It's impressive that M is able to focus on something for so long. We have those moments too, but they are rarely around creative activities. The only one that comes to mind is pipecleaners and beads. I definitely should get them out again.
